Gergely Ittzes (1969) was graduated at the Budapest List Academy of Music in 1992. After that he spent a year at the international Prague Mozart Academy then a few months at the Banff Center for the Arts.
He participated in several master courses where he was strongly effected by Aurele Nicolet and Istvan Matuz, among others. He won prizes in national and international competitions.
In 1992 and 2003 he received a prize for quality work from Artisjus, the Hungarian Copyright Office. In 1998 he won the Grand Prix of the Alexander Tansman 2nd International Competiion for Musical Personalities in Poland. In 1998 and 1999 he was supported by the Annie Fischer Grant, in 2001 he was awarded the Liszt Prize.
His wide repetory includes a large number of rarities in addition to the well-known pieces of flute Literature from the baroque to the most modern styles.
His composition and Inprovisations are inspired by the most modern techniques of the flute, especially the multiphonic playing. His Chart on Double-Stops includes about 400 fingering. He also gave lectures about extended flute techniques and led master classes at many places in Europe and America.
He is a member of the UMZE ensemble and has founded the TeTraVERSI flute quartet. He teaches flute in Gyor at the Szechenyi University and in the Vac Conservatory as well as in the Doppler Institute.
