After graduating at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, Aldo Baerten pursued his studies with Philippe Boucly (R.Strauss-Konservatorium MuNnchen), Gaby van Riet (Stuttgart) and obtained the SoloistDiploma in the Performing Class of Prof.Peter-Lukas Graf at the Musikhochschule Basel.
Furthermore, he performed in Masterclasses with J.P.Rampal, A.Nicolet, A.Adorjan, J.Baxtresser and J.Zoon.
Aldo Baerten won the honorary Medal at the International "Maria Canals"-Flutecompetition in Barcelona,the 2nd Prize at the Vienna International Music Competition, and became a Prizewinner in competitions such as Quantz, Young Talent, National Instrumentcompetition, National Musiccompetition and obtained the SABAM-, W.Pelemans- and Alex de Vries-Prizes.
Between 1989-93 he was Principal Flute in Claudio Abbado's European Community Youth Orchestra, where he played under famous conductors such as B.Haitink, Vl.Ashkenazy, J.Tate, J.Conlon, V.Neumann, M.Bahmert and J.Judd.
He was also chosen as Principal Flute with the World Youth Orchestra and the SchleswigHolstein MusicFestival Orchestra conducted by Sir G.Solti.
Aldo Baerten was Principal Flute in the New-Belgian Chamber Orchestra, the MDR-Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, and since 1994 he is Principal Flute of "deFilharmonie",the Royal Flanders Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Philippe Herreweghe, Daniele Callegari and Michael SchoNnwandt.
He is a Guest with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Mahler Chamberorchestra, I Fiamminghi and with the European Union Operaorchestra conducted by G.Roshdentvensky.
As a soloist he performed with such Orchestras as the RSO Basel, SuNdwestdeutsches Kammerorchester, Belgian National Orchestra, Walloon Chamber Orchestra and the Royal Flanders Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Ph.Herreweghe,V.Czarniecki, D.Stern, G.Llewellyn, P.Rundel, G.Octors, M.Piollet and Z.Nagy.
As a soloist and chambermusician he was invited to play at Festivals such as the Festival Mozart (France), Flanders Festival, Deutsche Kulturwochen in UkraiNne, Ars Musica, Festival de Wallonie, Holland Flutefestival, National Flute Convention (Las Vegas) in Europe, the US and Russia together with musicians such as J.Van Dam, F.Orval, W.Boeykens, J.Cl;Vanden Eynden, J.Michiels, M.Hallynck, Ronald Van Spaendonck, the ARPAE-ensemble, EOS-windquintett..
He has made recordings for ECM, Phaedra, Alpha, Royale Belge, Cypres and R.Gailly Int, which received excellent critics in the international Press and prizes s.a the Belgian Musicpress Prize 2002.
Aldo Baerten teaches at the Royal Conservatory-Muziekhogeschool in Antwerp and gives masterclasses in Belgium, Holland, France and the U.S.
